Can singer Martin Nievera be held liable criminally for not singing the national anthem "in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of Julian Felipe"? Will Philippine courts have jurisdiction over an alleged crime committed in Las Vegas, U.S.A.?
Views are split.

Lawyer A says local courts can have jurisdiction over Martin as he's in the country and the Flag & Heraldic Code doesn't say the violation must have been committed in this country. Besides, lawyer A says, the singing was televised and also viewed in the Philippines.

Lawyer B says the court won't have jurisdiction over the subject of the offense as it was committed outside the country.

Trust lawyers to disagree on almost any issue.
